Toy Safety & Compliance

1. Our Commitment to Safety

At Fidget Street, the safety of our customers is our top priority. We take toy safety seriously and are committed to providing products that are safe, well-made, and enjoyable to use. Every product we sell is carefully considered with safety in mind, and we are working through formal UKCA self-certification under the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 (S.I. 2011/1881).

2. UK Toy Safety Regulations

Toys sold in the United Kingdom must comply with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 (S.I. 2011/1881). These regulations set out essential safety requirements covering:

  • Physical and mechanical properties — ensuring toys withstand normal use without breaking into dangerous parts
  • Chemical safety — limiting harmful substances in toy materials
  • Electrical safety — for any battery-powered or electronic toys
  • Labelling and warnings — providing clear age guidance and hazard warnings

The relevant GB-designated standards include the EN 71 series, which cover safety of toys across multiple parts including mechanical and physical properties (EN 71-1), flammability (EN 71-2), and migration of certain elements (EN 71-3). Our certification work targets all three.

3. Our Materials

Our 3D-printed fidgets are made from PLA (Polylactic Acid) filament. This material is:

  • Non-toxic — PLA is derived from renewable resources such as corn starch and is widely recognised as safe for general use
  • Free from harmful substances — our filaments do not contain BPA, phthalates, or heavy metals

We hold supplier safety data sheets (SDS) on file for all filament materials we use, and we only source from established suppliers who provide material safety documentation.

Our clicker-style fidgets contain mechanical keyboard switches to produce a satisfying tactile click. We:

  • Source switches from established manufacturers whose products carry CE marking
  • Hold supplier safety data sheets and material declarations on file for the switch model used
  • Fully enclose the switch — housed within the PLA body of the toy and not accessible during normal use
  • Are completing EN 71-3 verification on the specific switch model used in our clickers, as part of our certification work

4. Age Guidance

Important Age Warning

Our fidgets are not suitable for children under 36 months (3 years) due to small parts which may present a choking hazard.

For all users:

  • Adult supervision is recommended for children
  • Regularly inspect toys for signs of wear or damage and discard if any parts become loose
  • Our products are designed for fidgeting and stress relief — they are not intended to be chewed or placed in the mouth

5. Our Certification — Work in Progress

Fidget Street is currently completing UKCA self-certification under Module A (manufacturer's own self-assessment) of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. Each product design goes through a structured process before its UK Declaration of Conformity is signed:

  • Material safety verified — we exclusively use LANDU PLA filament, which is independently tested and certified to EN 71-3 per colour by the manufacturer. Supplier certificates are held on file for every batch we use.
  • Design for safety — products are designed to minimise small detachable parts and sharp edges, with assembly procedures that hold non-PLA components securely.
  • EN 71-1 mechanical testing — in progress on each design as it enters certification, including small-parts cylinder, drop, impact, tension, and torque tests.
  • EN 71-2 flammability — assessed for our rigid plastic toys via the desktop rationale appropriate to their material class (rigid PLA, not in EN 71-2 special categories).
  • EN 71-3 migration — covered by per-colour LANDU certificates for the PLA, with switch-component verification in progress for clicker products.
  • Declarations of Conformity — will be issued and made available for each product as its certification completes.

If you have a question about the current certification status of a specific product, or to request the supplier safety data sheets we hold for our materials, please contact us.

6. Product Warnings

Safety Warnings

  • Choking hazard — small parts. Not suitable for children under 36 months.
  • Do not place fidgets in the mouth or chew on them.
  • Inspect toys regularly for damage. Discard any toy that is broken or has loose parts.
  • Keep packaging materials away from young children.
  • These products are intended for fidgeting and tactile stimulation only — use as directed.
